The Yorkshire Rose
I am a White Rose of Yorkshire
I stand tall and bloom in the sun
I entice the bee to pollen me
He wants my scent
Us redheads are a rarity
A thing of beauty
This poem is a bit quirky
Please do humour me!
Yorkshire is a beautiful place
York Minster and its amazing stain glass windows
The Restorer puts their initials on the glass for it to be found a few hundred years from now
I am quite knowledgeable
That surprised you!
Hebden Tea the place to be
Hundreds of loose teas
Saying please drink me and brew me
If you ramble to the Shambles
You find Hebden Tea
I am also quite knowledgeable about my tea!
The Rhubarb Triangle
Yes, it’s true
Your tummy will rumble
You must eat your rhubarb crumble!
Yorkshire Puddings as big as plates
Light and crisp, delicious!
Eat as a first course with rich onion gravy
Not only savoury but sweet too
Lather in treacle
You’ll love it too!
If you fancy a bun
A Sally Lunn
A large sticky teacake with icing on
If that’s not enough
A Fat Rascal
A gigantic fatty fruity scone
You will roll home!
Visit Betty’s and have afternoon tea
Waiter Service is complimentary
With posh sandwiches and cakes
A cup of tea in a china cup
I must remember not to slurp or hiccup
You have to go dressed up in there
Otherwise you’re banned and have to go elsewhere
People may stare if you get away with wearing trainers in there!
There are plenty of pubs and homemade grub
Beer like no other
Magnificent scenery
Dambuster history
You had no idea about our beautiful Yorkshire!
I hope my poem made you happy
I know you don’t love me
I hope you fall in love with my poetry
Us Yorkshire lasses have a sense of humour
One day I hope you get the chance to visit beautiful Yorkshire
It is a good place to be
Take it from me!
