Moving Forwards

Instead of walking forwards

We have now stepped back

Going over and over decisions already made

Are we just going around in indecisive circles?

Yet, if we open our mouth

Higher entities zip it tightly shut

We can no longer shout

Forever, struggling up the hill

One step forward

A barrier always seems to be put up

Another protest too

How many ordinary people affected by this backwards world?

I feel like we are going back in time

Is it really 1975?

Next there will be no electricity!

Water lost in a continual dripping tap

Unable to stop this post pandemic madness

Every day stepping backwards

I want to move forward in this chaotic world

Fairytales and myths are now a sad, frightening, reality unfurled

Living in this unbelievable world

How much does it cost to live?

Living through Chinese whispers fed to me

Fed to you

Shopping around for fuel

Shopping around for food

Zapped by heatwaves

Yet, in winter paying over the odds for our own energy

This mad world has devalued our penny

Nothing in this world for a solitary pound

Am I on the Price is Right?

The little yodelling man decides on our inflated price

Step by step

We better guess right quick!

We do not want the yodelling man to fall off our inflation cliff

Into our pittance of savings we do have to dip

I’m praying for yodelling man not to slip

We may all fall off the imaginary cliff

I take a bite out of the famous chocolate bar

Doubled in price

Reduced to half the size

No longer able to work, rest or play

I would have to eat ten a day

Shrinking food and pennies too

I am going backwards

Only barriers, myths and legends exist

Going forwards

Not ever quite passing our chequered past

Sometimes, no one has the energy to move

We need to push so very hard

One step forwards

At this rate

It could take a life time

We have to cling onto our forwards steps

We can’t let go of our recent past

We must try to move forwards

No stepping back

Open our mouths

Stop the rhythm and beat of our backwards turned around feet

One foot forward please

We cannot be defeated
