The Written Word
Grammar is going out of fashion. The apostrophe and full stop will soon have had their lot.
The comma and semicolon will soon be on their way too. There will be no hyphen or paragraph or capitals to boot. No brackets or speech marks. This language of ours will become a farce.
Our language will have no pause for thought or take a breathe. Our language will be bereft.
There will be no foreign language to learn. We will all speak only one. Variety and culture will have flown. We all have a language that won’t be our own.
Come in are hashtag and short cuts and shortened sentences that will drive us all nuts. Please do not allow these to become us.
Our language is precious and complicated and in other ways so simplistic. It maybe here, it maybe there but it is all our job to take good care of the written word. For one morning we may wake up and it may sound absurd and we will have lost our written word.
