Eating Cheese and Crackers
10 June 2022
Eating cheese and crackers
Looking out of my garden
Fences all around
We are conditioned
To lockdowns
To restrictions
To unpredictable situations
We no longer frown
We no longer shout
As the world shuts down
As major changes happen all around
Yet, people no longer protest or stand up
As the price of petrol goes up and up
The cost of living goes up
Rumours on the newspaper mill
As we move along this continuous treadmill
What will be the next word spillage?
What will be the next world wide event to fill this empty space?
As our old world is slowly being erased
A new world we do not recognise
Is slowly growing in its place
As I drink my tea
As my own garden slowly shrinks around me
The fences grow slowly taller into solid bricks
I can no longer see the world as it used be
I just reminisce
As I eat my cheese and crackers
