A piece of unique history

A little boy chopped down a piece of unique history

A beautiful sycamore tree

Another piece of history chipped away

It cannot be replaced

Taken with such wicked haste

The Sycamore Gap Tree

It can no longer stand tall

Or shade us from the shining sun

Or the pouring rain

It cannot grow again

Another piece of history was made today

History will not forget this day

So do not try to rewrite it

For it is plain to see

A sycamore tree has been broken in two

How we wish we could mend you
