A Human to Love Us
It’s that time of year again
As I sit in my cold, leafy field
I’ve been really well fed
We almost touch
Apparently, humans like us very much
Pulled out and cut from my familiar, comfy bed
I feel very naked and bare
The human holds me with such loving care
As I’m bought and paid for
Humans carrying me in the pouring rain
I know, I will never see my homely field ever again
I now just wait for my inevitable fate
I wonder, will I be eaten?
Sliced, chopped and cooked
Will I experience a very hot flush?
I hope, I taste wonderfully delicious
Or will I be carved out
My orange brain, taken ungraciously away
I hope they give me, a good scary face
I will be kept warm by a candles flame
Welcoming trick or treaters again and again
As my flaming candle is finally blown out
My remains are thrown out
After October, there are not many of us about
Until next year
The same time of year
You will find me, especially well fed
Sitting in my own cold, leafy bed
Until we almost touch
Waiting for a human to love us
