Insomnia

Insomnia

History repeating itself

I look at the ticking clock on the shelf

My mind ticks in time, as the clock chimes

Counting the 100th sheep over the white farmers fence

Will this night never end?

Eyes opened wide

As if caught in beaming headlights

As I pour my cup of tea

I must eat a sweet biscuit

My tired brain

Now zapped wide awake

As I eat my sugar intake

Middle of the night

I’m losing my insomniac fight

I give in

Switching on the TV for company

Reaching out to technology

My iPad and smart phone

Checking, if anyone is up

I slowly sup

To quench my thirst

Insomnia is getting worse

I toss and turn

My mind ticks in time, as the clock chimes

I look at the ticking clock on the shelf

History repeating itself
