Dear Sunflower

Dear Sunflower

Do not bend your head

The beaming sun shines in your face

Don’t let the wind blow your petals away

Grow wonderfully tall

Taste the flowing rainfall

Standing like a mural against the solitary wall

Lost in a sea of sunflowers

You can’t help but sway

A field of gold whilst in bloom

As the sun goes down

Your weary head turns down

You start to frown

For you can no longer bloom

You cry as your seeds leave your gorgeous face

Your yellow petals slowly become dry and frail

You can no longer stand tall

Soon you won’t resemble a sunflower at all

Your yellow petals fall to the floor

I cry a tear as you no longer stand tall

Soon it will be as if you never lived here at all

We will see a relative of yours next year

Swaying in the yellow sea

I will remember this is where you used to be

The golden sunflower standing tall

Like a mural on a solitary wall

Your beautiful seeds will forever fall

A fond farewell
